These data demonstrate that the cognitive benefits of donepezil abate after 6 weeks of placebo washout but not after 3 weeks. When treatment with donepezil is resumed, patients show improvements in ADAS-cog scores of a similar magnitude t o those observed in the double-blind study. When washout is incomplete (3 weeks), the placebo patients never catch up with those originally taking 10 mg/day donepezil. Once donepezil treatment is begun it should be continued uninterrupted. |
